In a groundbreaking collaboration that transcends academic boundaries, the Business Research Class at Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS) partnered with Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 4, 2023. This unique collaboration falls under the purview of the Business Research class, showcasing the fusion of business ethics and social responsibility in addressing critical societal issues.
The event, hosted at HSB’s lobby, was not only a celebration but a poignant demonstration of unity, as 80 participants—individuals with disabilities (PWDs) currently receiving treatment at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine—were honored. The overarching objective of the program was to raise awareness about the challenges faced by PWDs, emphasizing their abilities and promoting their seamless reintegration into society.
The ceremony was inaugurated by HSB Director, Dr. Fauziah Binti Abdul Wahab, Dr. Yew Chung Khian, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Associate Professor Dr. Nomahaza Mahadi from AHIBS, a senior lecturer in the Business Research class. Significantly, the MBA students involved in this collaboration are medical professionals from Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Kedah, adding a distinctive dimension to the initiative.
Distinguished guests included Deputy Directors of Medical Services at HSB, Mr. Hazlee Bin Omar, Head of the Occupational Unit, Mr. Helmi Bin Hashim, and Program Coordinators Dr. Raja Nabila binti Raja Mohamed Anuar and Dr. Yasothai A/P Sahadeevan.
The event featured a variety of activities, such as exhibition booths and talks, with participation from key organizations like Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), Jabatan Belia dan Sukan (JBS) Negeri Kedah, Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO), National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), and Diveheart Malaysia.
PWD participants actively contributed to the event, operating stalls that showcased their talents, including paintings by Mr. Kamaruddin and handmade crafts by children from the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
A touching moment unfolded as Mr. Zulkifli Bin Zainol was honored for his remarkable progress and dedication in treatment, symbolizing the spirit of resilience.
Expressions of gratitude were extended to all attendees, organizers, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and everyone involved in the seamless execution of this collaborative event, exemplifying the principles of business ethics and social responsibility. The active participation of MBA students, who are also medical professionals, underscores the interdisciplinary approach in addressing societal challenges and promoting inclusivity.
