Non Graduating Program

Overview

 

As a center of excellence, IBS offers numerous programs that are specifically designed for the individuals or organisations towards knowledge enhancement, which is deemed important to improve their performance and increase productivity. Besides the MBA programs, IBS also offers Non-Graduating program.

Non-graduating program is a package of training program consisting of courses taught by lecturers from local and foreign universities. This program is specially designed for participants who are not ready to join the MBA but keen to gain the knowledge in management. The participants, however, are allowed to transfer their credits on the courses they have taken once they are ready to pursue the MBA, after fulfilling the necessary entry requirements.

  • Become more optimistic and confident of their job performance.

 

Program Structure
  • MBA CORE

This course places the concept of technology and technology management in perspective and deals with the strategies to manage innovation. This includes how to create product innovation and understanding its process. The course also discusses technology transfer.

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT AND INNOVATION
 This course places the concept of technology and technology management in perspective and deals with the strategies to manage innovation. This includes how to create product innovation and understanding its process. The course also discusses technology transfer.

MANAGEMENT & COST ACCOUNTING
 Accounting and cost constitute the bases upon which all internal and external financial transactions are conducted. A thorough knowledge of accounting, its concept and practices therefore, is necessary for an effective financial control of any business. Financial, Management and Cost Accounting will be discussed in this course with implications on decision making.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
 The module covers the depth of business-critical understanding and skills necessary for effective financial management of modern enterprises. Students are required to prepare the cash forecast, financial statements, enterprises evaluation, capital project evaluation, and others.

MARKETING MANAGEMENT
 Focus will be centered on the short term and long term marketing consideration by examining the role of marketing in a business operation and for corporate success. Students will learn how marketing can help an organization gain and sustain competitive advantages, the various techniques for monitoring marketing performance and customer satisfaction, how marketing mix decisions are made and implemented, and how to develop and implement marketing plans.

ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
 The course provides an understanding of the macroeconomics environment affecting management decision-making in the public and private sectors. It focuses on factors determining national income and output; inflation and unemployment; fiscal and monetary policy; balance of payments and exchange rates; and international aspects of economic policy with special reference to Malaysia.

These courses will help you to apply both experiential learning and problem solving and analytical and decision–making skills to real everyday situations through project and case studies.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
This course will give students a foundation of basic strategic concepts for application at both the corporate and business unit levels. The emphasis is on developing strategic thinking to enable students to approach complex multi-disciplinary problems and opportunities confidently. Students will be able to forecast and evaluate the effects of major business decision; assess the benefits and problems of integrating corporate and functional strategies; and to formulate approaches for managing strategic change.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
This course focuses on the importance of managing people in organizations. It is recognized that changes in the environment have great impact on people in organizations particularly when organizations need to sustain competitive advantage. Successful and effective management of human resources is as important for corporate success as any other management activity. This course will help students to link their personal situation and experience to general principles of human resources. Case studies will enable students to link theory and practice in human resource management.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
This course will touch on the process of entrepreneurship, the characteristics of an entrepreneur, the process of business registration, the scientific process of idea formation and the current business issues and problems faced by SMIs.

TAX & BUSINESS STRATEGY
This course explores the holistic perspective of taxation as an economic instrument that exists in the business environment.  It also looks at the practices of taxation in Malaysia from the perspective of every aspect of taxpayer in the economy.  The course explores the overall perspective of tax planning and strategies by outlining the basic approach to tax planning, tax planning and strategies as an important tool in personal and corporate financial planning and finally focuses on making distinction between planning, avoidance and evasion in view of the legal limit to tax planning.

OPERATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Business organizations are torn between effective business service for consumers and organizational profitability.  This is pertinent in view of the need to strategize their operations within the competitive business market, especially for private businesses. The objective of this course is to equip participants with a comprehensive under3standing of financial management as it relates to the overall strategy of business organizations. Among others, this involves identification of financial decisions, evaluation of problems and deriving effective strategic financial moves.

DESIGNING STRATEGIC PLANS
The course is designed to develop participants with the critical skills in designing competitive strategic plans consistent with a company or a firm’s overall strategy towards fulfilling stakeholders’ expectations. The course focuses on how to develop and implement corporate, business and marketing plans, budgets, HR Plan, etc for their organizations. Prior to developing the plan, the objective of the course is to review the state of the economy and the business condition.

QUALITY & CHANGE MANAGEMENT
Quality will continue to be the most critical issue for businesses which aspire for excellence. This course will look at all aspects of quality in organizations and deals with the continuous change programs to achieve organizational performance through appropriate change management strategies and implementation. This module treats QUALITY as the economic achievement of customer satisfaction and as such is a fundamental management objective.

IT STRATEGY
Information Technology is becoming increasingly important in the business industry. Through this course, students will develop an understanding of the critical role in that information technology plays in generating and sustaining a competitive edge. It also develops personal competence in the management of an information system, strategies and processes that are currently required to manage modern organizations.

This course offered by the Center for Advanced Software Engineering (CASE) deals with the application information technology in managing projects. In the present business environment, projects are  planned and executed with the use of information technology to gain speed and efficiency. The widespread use of information technology in business started when managers could organize their business operation strategy in a better fashion.

ORGANISATION BEHAVIOUR & DEVELOPMENT
 This is a course that covers both organizational and group behavior in organizations. The scientific approach to behavior deals along the changing organizational paradigms within the context of organizational purpose, mission and strategies. In the same mannner, the organizational culture and diversity will be discussed along with the behavior of individuals and groups within the organization.

  • MBA ELECTIVE (ME) – SELECTION
STUDENT CAN CHOOSE THE SUBJECT
These courses will allow students to broaden their knowledge in specific business areas by cultivating critical business competencies. Other electives are Creativity and Innovation, Global Business Environment, The Legal Aspects of Business, Economics of Governmental Activities, Venture Capital Management Quantitative Analysis, Presentation and Communication Skills, Negotiation Skills and others.

  • MASTER PROJECT
CASE STUDY
The objective of this project is to provide a realistic environment for the students to synthesize materials drawn from different modules and to apply them within a project that has real business value. The project should reflect the target of the performance and will pass through a number of stages for approval. This course is intended to after a framework for managing a project, including presentation and guidelines on project research methods.

Admission Requirement

An MBA constitutes a major investment in terms of cost and time since students have to balance the responsibilities of a demanding position with the need to master management competencies. Their choice of an appropriate MBA program must therefore be correct in order that the incidence of opportunity loss may be obviated.

Whilst there are indeed many MBA programs available today, these programs are precisely geared to garner maximum gains for the students with quality courses.

The minimum entry requirement is as follows;

  • An honours degree from UTM or other recognized universities or an equivalent academic qualification from an overseas establishment approved by the university Senate. Certain professional qualifications will also be considered.
