Dr. Rafidah Othman
Dr. Rafidah Othman is a Senior Lecturer at Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), with expertise in Finance, Banking, Investment, and Global Business Strategy. She is committed to advancing excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement through the integration of academic scholarship with industry practice.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Finance and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Applied Finance and Investment from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons.) in Finance from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Before joining academia, Dr. Rafidah built an extensive career in the banking industry, gaining valuable professional experience that continues to enrich her teaching, research, and industry engagement. Since embarking on her academic career, she has successfully supervised and graduated numerous MBA, DBA, and PhD candidates, comprising both local and international students, reflecting her commitment to developing future scholars and industry leaders. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she is actively involved in social service initiatives and community engagement through knowledge transfer, capacity-building, and community development projects that promote sustainable and inclusive growth. Her research interests encompass Banking, Investment, Behavioral Finance, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Social Return on Investment (SROI), Corporate Governance, and Corporate Finance.
Drawing on her extensive experience in both industry and higher education, Dr. Rafidah’s teaching philosophy is founded on the belief that universities should develop graduates who are not only academically competent but also ethical, socially responsible, and capable of leading positive change. She adopts a student-centred and action-oriented approach that bridges theory and practice through interactive learning, case-based teaching, experiential activities, and meaningful community engagement. By fostering an inclusive and intellectually stimulating learning environment, she empowers students to think critically, solve complex real-world challenges, and embrace lifelong learning while contributing responsibly to their professions, organizations, and society.
