Dr. Zarina bt Abdul Salam is a distinguished Associate Professor at Azman Hashim International Business School, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), whose career exemplifies a powerful synergy of rigorous academic scholarship and impactful professional practice. A Chartered Accountant registered with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, she leverages her foundational experience as a Senior Executive in Banking Supervision at Bank Negara Malaysia to enrich her research expertise in financial reporting quality, corporate governance, and auditing. Her academic credentials, including a PhD in Accounting from Cardiff University, an MBA from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a Bachelor’s from Universiti Teknologi MARA, provide a robust foundation for her significant contributions. Dr. Zarina has demonstrated exceptional prowess in securing competitive research funding, successfully leading projects as Principal Investigator and serving as a key member on collaborative teams, with a total grant portfolio value exceeding RM 500,000 for investigations into areas like Social Return on Investment (SROI) and household financial behavior. This scholarly excellence is consistently recognized through a plethora of awards, including multiple Excellence Service Awards, Student Development Awards, a Best Publication Q1/Q2 Award and several Blended Learning Excellence Awards for her innovative pedagogy. As a dedicated research supervisor, Dr. Zarina has successfully guided 4 PhD students to graduation as Main Supervisor, 2 as co supervisor and currently mentors 3 ongoing PhD candidates, and has overseen the completion of over 30 Master’s students, underscoring her profound commitment to academic mentorship.
